Beam Me Up

January
17 - February 14, 2009

Opening Reception January 17, 2009

6:00-8:00 pm

Beginning with my love of Science Fiction and outer space, “Beam me up” became an exploration for my two Maltese dogs to travel the universe in their spaceship. Little did I know at the time that I began this series that my dear dog, BamBam became ill and died untimely at age of 6. He began his journey into the unknown universe and I began to immortalize him and Roberto in my paintings.

Beyond “dog” portraits, these new works deal much with my obsession of death and transition. My fear of death and hope for the unknown to be a beautiful place, my imagination takes us there in the works, from the “Adventures of BamBam and Roberto” who pop into a “qwerkys” dimension, to the “Galatic Camo Spacesuits”, where Roberto and BamBam’s little faces peek out. As well as a surreal, festive portrait of BamBam in Heaven with angle wings atop a floating disco pod.

I am working through the process of death, and asking myself where do we go from here?
Coming up with my usual lighthearted take and colorful visuals, but yet a sense of uneasiness as we are all going to get “beamed up”!
