Wendy Wagner “The Show Must Go On!” Paintings, Ceramics, and Animation March 24 – April 21, 2007 In each succeeding series of work over the past 4 years, Wendy Wagner has opened up entire new worlds of creative expression. In a mythic realm of abstraction, invention and fantasy, Wendy digs deep into her own childhood memories to bring forth panoply of characters, fantastic shapes, and dream like images which delight the senses and yet tug at the unconscious world of half forgotten reverie that is part of our collective experiences. In the works for this exhibition “The Show Must Go On”, Wendy Wagner draws on images taken from her childhood experiences with the Circus and the Ice Capades. These colorful snippets of animals, flowers, skaters’ torsos, and anthropomorphic appendages, are incorporated into a rich and amazingly complex painterly surface. These are, first and foremost, pure paintings. The many unique worlds these works lead us into are, ultimately, their universal tale of beauty and of magic. Thom Andriola Director New Gallery
