Wendy Wagner
“funner”
Wendy Wagner has always been somewhat of a painterly fantasist.
In this new series of work, her anthropomorphic menagerie of whimsical beings burst into the forefront of the picture plane.
Frog lips, phantom bunnies, deranged
duckies, and flying snouts, among other fantastic manifestations of her
artistic arsenal, explode from the canvas with exuberance, charm and
even a little anxious mystery. In some instances, Wendy Wagner’s
little creatures even assume three-dimensional shape in the form of
ceramic objects. The entire gallery space is alive and inhabited by
Wendy Wagner’s secret world.
Despite all this visual excitement, there is a real depth and mastery of technique found in her painted and layered surfaces.
The personal philosophy within the work goes beyond whimsy, into the realm of looking beyond, or
of discovering secret places and desires.
Wendy Wagner’s paintings are a
rich tapestry of imagery and abstraction bathed in brilliant pools of
rich color and texture.
Please join us and experience the wonder of Wendy Wagner’s “funner” exhibition opening October 21st and 22nd.
