Susan Budge
Eye Spy
Saturday, October 21, 2006

New Gallery/ Thom Andriola invites you to come view the new work of Susan Budge “Eye Spy” which opens on Saturday, October 21, 2006 with a reception from 6-8pm.

Susan returns to New Gallery with a strong body of work that reflects her joyous character and love of life. Her sculptures dance in space, while at the same time keep an eye on reality. These objects take on any form, shape, or character without losing sight of their place or identity.

Susan nurtured these pieces after completing an enourmous body of work for the city of San Antonio, permanently placed in Brackenridge Park. Those monumental pieces drove Susan to return to her studio with love and tenderness expressed in pieces that barely filled the palm of her hand. In time, Susan began again sculpting life sized creatures that mirror human emotions and character.

Eye spy is a fitting comment on Susan's life and work. She, as a mother, is constantly followed by her son, who never takes his eyes off her when working in the studio. Susan reflects on this human need for observation as a learning tool offsprings use to advance their skills, affirm their security, and strenghten their social belonging.

The gallery space occupied with Susan's sculptures enlivens everyone's spirits. Her creatures are so full of personality that any willing owner will have an excellent companion for a lifetime. You decide who is in charge. Word of caution though - you might want to watch yourself, because you never know who is spying on you.
