Ron Davis Works from 1965 – 2008 March 29 - April 26, 2008 Opening Reception March 29, 2008 6:00 - 8:00 pm Ronald Davis’ third one-person show at New Gallery / Thom Andriola, “Works from 1965 – 2008” is a selection of works encompassing four decades of this American modern master’s illustrious career.
There are only a handful
of artists who can claim that a work of theirs was visible through the
front doors of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Ronald Davis’ seminal Dodecagon “Ring” is a piece that has greeted visitors to the MOMA for the past year, a work originally exhibited at Leo Castelli Gallery in 1968 and purchased by the museum at that time. The show at New Gallery
will feature three resin paintings from the same period as the MOMA
work, as well as three related multiples produced by Gemini in
1971. There will be a shaped canvas from his first one-person
show in 1965, along with his most current 2008 pixel dust paintings on
aluminum.
Ron Davis is one of America’s true visionary artists, an icon of the 60’s and 70’s minimal and color field movements. Ron continues to be a provocative and innovative artist, creating works that are always thought provoking and beautiful to behold. His work is currently featured in exhibition “Color as Field” American Painting 1950 – 1975” at The Smithsonian Museum of American Art in Washington, DC, and in “So Cal: Southern California Art of the 60’s and 70’s” at the Los Angeles County Museum.
