October 20 - November 24, 2007 Opening Reception October 20, 2007 6:00 - 8:00 pm SUZANNE BANNING Beyond Lolita Suzanne Banning presents her second one-person show at New Gallery/ Thom Andriola “Beyond Lolita”.
Suzanne continues her
psychological exploration into the feminine psyche drawn from literary
inspiration. This work confronts the archetype child/woman issue.
Although there are specific references to Nabokov’s
“Lolita”, her photographic investigations go beyond the
direct narrative of that story.
Suzanne employs a
performance like strategy to her photographic essay. She takes images
of herself as she moves to specifically inspiring music. Her dancing
body is projected onto with scenes from the two Lolita movies and
documentaries on roses and butterflies.
