Gordon Terry

Messages at Milk Hill

June 7 - July
5, 2008

Opening Reception June 7, 2008

6:00 - 8:00 pm

Gordon Terry’s third one-person show at New Gallery/Thom Andriola is “Messages at Milk Hill”.  The title refers to a location in Wiltshire, England where a number of elaborate crop formations have appeared over the past seven years.

Gordon Terry has often referred to the cosmic or the cosmically mysterious in his fluid multi-dimensional fields of color and biomorphic forms, both from the heavens and from the earth.  To capture the flow of interstellar clouds and planetary nebula seems to be just one Gordon’s approaches to naming the unnamable and painting the unpaintable.

From ice caves to amoebas, from galaxies to quarks, all are rendered and presented with precision and incredible beauty. One feels the presence of an intimate and personal universe in these works by Gordon Terry.

Gordon lives and works in New York.  He has had one person shows in New York, Paris, Houston and Wiesbaden, Germany.  He will be featured in a show later this year at the San Antonio Museum of Art  entitled  “Psychedelic: Optical and Visionary Art Since 1960.”

His works have been reviewed in the New York Times, The Village Voice, Art in America, The Houston Press, Art Forum and The New Yorker.
